Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is fold equity?
Fold equity is the value you gain when your opponent folds. A bet wins in two ways: the opponent folds and you take the pot immediately, or he calls and you win at showdown with your equity.
How many folds does a pure bluff need?
A bluff with no equity needs a fold rate of bet / (pot + bet). A half-pot bet breaks even at 33% folds, a pot-size bet at 50%, a 2x pot bet at 67%.
How does equity reduce the required fold rate?
If you have equity when called (a draw, overcards), part of the loss comes back. A flush-draw semi-bluff therefore breaks even at far fewer folds than a pure bluff, and with enough equity the bet is profitable even if the opponent never folds.
Does the calculator account for later streets?
No, it is a one-street model: equity is taken against the final pot when called. Implied odds and future bluffs usually make semi-bluffs even better, but risk grows too. Treat the result as a practical lower bound for decisions.
